In professional plant decoration projects, aesthetics alone are no longer enough.
Hotels, restaurants, offices, retail spaces, exhibition stands or event venues are subject to strict regulatory constraints in terms of fire safety, particularly in Public Access Buildings (ERP).
It is within this framework that Phocealys offers fire-retardant stabilized mosses, designed to reconcile a natural plant appearance, durability and fire compliance, without compromising creativity.
Why apply fire-retardant treatment to stabilized moss?
In venues open to the public – hotels, restaurants, shops, trade fairs or events – fire safety is not an option. Regulations require decorative materials to meet strict fire reaction standards.
Stabilized moss is a natural plant-based material. Its fire-retardant treatment allows to:
• delay material ignition,
• limit flame spread,
• reduce post-combustion,
• prevent the formation of flaming droplets.
In other words: the material does not become non-combustible, but adopts controlled behavior in the event of fire, compatible with regulatory requirements for professional projects.
Our stabilized mosses benefit from M1 certification, ensuring low flammability and limited flame propagation. It is therefore the ideal choice for designing green walls, frames or exhibition stand coverings while complying with regulatory requirements.
A fire-retardant treatment adapted to stabilized plant materials
Phocealys fire-retardant mosses benefit from a flame-retardant surface treatment, specifically formulated for stabilized plant substrates.
This treatment:
• is applied by spraying,
• is based on an aqueous solution,
• is odorless, non-toxic and colorless,
• does not alter the texture, flexibility or natural color of the moss.
The result: a moss visually identical to conventional stabilized moss, but with a level of fire safety adapted to professional uses.
Fire-retardant stabilized mosses available from Phocealys
Fire-retardant ball moss
Widely used in green walls and volumetric compositions, fire-retardant ball moss retains:
• its natural flexibility,
• its excellent relief capacity.
It is particularly suitable for decorative wall surfaces and creations requiring volume.
Fire-retardant Provence moss
More graphic and irregular, fire-retardant Provence moss offers:
• a more textured appearance,
• a raw, natural plant look,
• excellent coverage capacity.
It is often chosen for contemporary projects, wall coverings or decors with strong visual identity.
Fire-retardant flat moss
More homogeneous and regular, fire-retardant flat moss stands out for:
• a smooth, uniform surface,
• a clean and contemporary plant finish,
• excellent graphic readability.
It is particularly suitable for structured green walls, decorative panels, plant-based logos or wall coverings requiring a neat, controlled finish.
Fire-retardant production on request: fern moss and lycopodium
To meet specific project requirements, Phocealys can also offer, on request, other varieties of fire-retardant moss:
• fern mosses,
• lycopodium mosses.
These productions are carried out after technical validation of the project (substrate, surface, installation conditions, final use).
Fire classification: what M1 really means
The fire-retardant mosses offered by Phocealys have been tested in an accredited laboratory in accordance with the NF P 92-507 standard, resulting in an M1 classification under defined installation conditions.
The M1 classification indicates:
• very low flammability,
• absence of flaming droplets,
• stable behavior when exposed to a heat source.
This level is required for decorative materials used in public access buildings.
French classification and Euroclass: understanding equivalences
The French classification (M0 to M4) and the European classification (Euroclasses A1 to F – EN 13501-1 standard) are based on different testing protocols.
There is therefore no automatic correspondence, but a generally accepted indicative technical equivalence:

A solution designed for professional projects
