Dried carthamus is a Mediterranean plant closely related to thistle. Also known as cathamus, they are naturally dried to ensure extraordinary longevity. The word carthamus comes from the Arabic qurtus, meaning "to dye". The flower is renowned for its dyeing virtues, which derive from its intense yellow or ochre color. We offer two shades of this plant to delight your most beautiful bouquets. Orange will bring a very sunny aspect to your creations. The almost coarse roundness of the flower will be clearly perceptible, and will also bring a rustic, raw feel to the decoration. On the other hand, white, which turns golden green, will focus the eye on the plant's rather unusual shape. Quite short and thick, it adds volume to the width of your creations, and can easily be softened by other dried flowers or preserved foliage in very bright colors. Native to Italy, safflower easily conveys an air of the Tuscan countryside, slightly reminiscent of French Provence. In addition to adding color and volume to your creations, dry safflower is a flower with character. Its large flowers and slightly thorny leaves make it an almost geometric plant with obtuse angles. You can easily put it in a vase with more rounded edges to break this angular geometry. Placing this vase on a piece of furniture or a table will be the best way to modernize the room by honoring the safflower.

General recommendations

Dried flowers require minimal maintenance. Phocealys advises you :

  • Do not expose your dried flowers directly to the sun, as direct exposure could damage the colour of your bouquets
  • To remove dust from your dried bouquets, wipe them lightly with a cloth to avoid damaging them. You can also use a hairdryer, as long as the air is cold and you do not blow too close to the bouquet

If you follow these tips, your dried flowers will last almost forever!
